“Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first person she meets and then teams up with three strangers to kill again.”

Would you read that? Do you know which movie this unexpectedly describes?

On Saturday November 16 I will deliver my popular Find Your Hot Premise workshop via Zoom to the Georgia Romance Writers. This workshop is for everyone who’s been asked to boil down their story idea into one sentence, ten words or fewer. This is for everyone who’s had a hard time boiling their stories down into the simplest terms, a necessity in today’s short-attention-span era. It’s crucial when seeking the attention of agents, editors, booksellers, librarians, journalists, reviewers, producers, event organizers — even readers. It’s supercharging an elevator pitch by finding a premise with top currency in order to teach writers to capture attention in a way that resonates. Attendees learn the building blocks and what-ifs that make for a twist that’s memorable — and helps to sell.

The hot premise above? Credit Rick Polito, then with the Marin Independent Journal in California. Writers who want to be as attention-getting can discover more and be inspired to write their own on Saturday. The meeting starts at 9:30 am Eastern Time (6:30 am Pacific). I start at 10 am (7 am Pacific; yes, I’ll be drinking coffee!) Zoom Meeting Fee: $8, paid with cash or check or PayPal to grwtreasurer@gmail.com.

Can’t attend? You can still work on your own hot premise using Rick Polito’s example. Try it! If you hashtag it to EMSFlynnFindYourHotPremise, we can all have some fun!
